Deep breaths are what get things done.
Men take deep breaths before undertaking giant, society altering projects, before changing their lives. With deep breaths we have built, and destroyed, we have given, and we have snatched. A pilot taking a deep breath before entering the fighter jet, a young mother taking a deep breath before giving birth to her first baby girl, a politician getting ready to address the nation. Deep breaths prepare humans, they motivate. It’s almost like we’re not ready to do something, and we’re not going to do it, until those precious extra molecules of air have entered our lungs.
The night air is cool, gentle, and the stars above shine with striking ferocity. I wonder if there’s a reason they’re shining particularly brightly tonight.
I’ll never get to find out.
I look down at the dizzying 35 story drop. And take a deep breath.
